You may want to first read my blog posts ….question everything….why? & Divination is “Learning by experience” & blog #3 Keeping the Sabbath Holy as this is my fourth blog post in how God revealed the truth about Christianity. This was a journey with God as I sought his wisdom for all of my questions regarding the church and Christianity. I guarantee that if you follow these blogs your eyes will be opened in a whole new way.
God has many names that he is called by:
- El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty)
- El Elyon (The Most High God)
- Adonai (Lord, Master)
- Yahweh (Lord, Jehovah)
- Jehovah Nissi (The Lord My Banner)
- Jehovah-Raah (The Lord My Shepherd)
- Jehovah Rapha (The Lord That Heals)
- Jehovah Shammah (The Lord Is There)
- Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord Our Righteousness)
- Jehovah Mekoddishkem (The Lord Who Sanctifies You)
- El Olam (The Everlasting God)
- Elohim (God)
- Qanna (Jealous)
- Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide)
- Jehovah Shalom (The Lord Is Peace)
- Jehovah Sabaoth (The Lord of Hosts)
All throughout the Bible, you see that names are incredibly important. God changes Abram’s name to Abraham and Sarai to Sarah. When Rachel gave birth it is noted in Genesis 35:18 As she breathed her last–for she was dying–she named her son Ben-Oni. But his father named him Benjamin.
But when you look up the name Jesus to find its meaning it becomes quite chaotic.
In the Old Testament, you see the prophecy that he will be born of a virgin and his name shall be called Immanuel which is supposed to mean God with us. The problem is that when you look in the original Hebrew language it just says that he would be born of a YOUNG woman, not a VIRGIN woman. I did a lot of research into this and you can too if you are interested. I don’t want you to take my word for it. You must do your own research. Just google it or do a search on youtube.
Next I thought “if his name is Jesus why didn’t they name him Immanuel?”
Then I discovered that the name Jesus was transliterated from Yeshua. But still why wasn’t he named Immanuel? Why Jesus? In all of this transliterated stuff I discovered that the letter J didn’t even exist until 500 years ago. But wait!!! Jesus came and died 2,000 years ago. How can this be? Then I looked up to see what the name Jesus means and in the greek it means :
From Strong’s Concordance
2424 Iēsoús – Jesus, the transliteration of the Hebrew term, 3091 /Lṓt(“Yehoshua”/Jehoshua, contracted to “Joshua”) which means “Yahwehsaves” (or “Yahweh is salvation”).
This still didn’t make sense to me. Why is it that names are SO INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT TO GOD but yet his son’s name which was suposed to be Immanuel is Jesus but yet Jesus only means Joshua and Joshua means Yahweh is salvation? Jesus doesn’t really mean anything and the name didn’t even exist until 1,500 years AFTER he died on the cross?
THIS DOESN’T MAKE SENSE!!!
So I dug and I dug and I prayed and I prayed and I asked God for truth. I have cried so many tears over this whole confusing big mess.
