#2 Divination is “Learning by experience”

If you haven’t read blog post one please do so now so that what you read here makes sense.

In all of my questioning, I began to have issues with the Apostle Paul’s writings. They just didn’t sit right with me. I began to tear the New Testament apart. I knew I couldn’t just cherry pick and create my own bible and pull out all of his epistles. I had to figure this out!

I began to research and I googled “issues with Paul.” I found tons of information tearing Paul to pieces and much of it made sense to me. Still, I wondered how was I to approach the bible now if Paul was a fraud? Then I came to an article talking about how when you look at Paul through Christian Theology much of the New Testament and Paul’s writing are hard to read. But….if you look at Paul’s writings from the perspective that he was following Torah as a believer in Christ then much of what he said began to become clear and understandable. I started following this path of breadcrumbs.

I had kept coming to the scripture where Jesus says that he has come to fulfill the law not to abolish the law. I had meditated on that verse for over a year. It kept popping up in my thoughts and here it was again. What does it mean to fulfill the law? I began to ask questions on Google and YouTube and found articles and videos. I came to the understanding that the law is where people get mixed up. So, let’s define the law. Now, this definition is in my limited understanding so it is by no means a complete definition. I’m just a baby here learning.

God gave Moses the 10 Commandments when he was on Mount Sinai. Then in other places like Deuteronomy and Leviticus we see that it is full of directions for making unclean things clean. We also learn about tithing, sacrificing, feasts and celebrations.

If Jesus came to fulfill the law and we know that in him our unrighteousness has been washed away and we are now righteous, then that must mean that he came to make what is unclean, to be clean. So Jesus fulfilled the PART of the law regarding making unclean things clean. Let’s look at what is left then after Jesus fulfilled this part of the law through his death and resurrection. We have the tithe for the Levites priests. This tithe was ALWAYS agricultural it was NEVER money. If you had 15 goats then you gave the 10th goat to the Levites for food. If you had 9 sheep then you gave nothing. The tithe was never a tenth of your income or your livestock. Rather it was the tenth one and never your income. Now that there are no Levite Priests we no longer tithe. But what about the church? They need money to operate. Feel free to give to them but by no means are you REQUIRED TO TITHE.

We covered the tithe, we covered the sacrifice from unclean to clean, now let’s look at the rest of the Torah, the law. We still have the commandments, basically moral law, and the feasts and celebrations.

Let’s hit the commandments first. What are they?

  1. Have no other gods.
  2. No Idols.
  3. Obey your parents.
  4. Do not use the Lord’s name in vain.
  5. Remember the Sabbath by keeping it holy.
  6. Shall not murder.
  7. Shall not commit adultery.
  8. Shall not steal.
  9. Shall not give false testimony.
  10. Shall not covet.

And let us not forget the two from the New Testament.

  1. Love the Lord your God.
  2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

That covers a lot of ground!! It pretty much meets all the requirements of walking in the spirit and not in the flesh. That’s do-able.

How many laws does your nation have? Do you keep ALL OF THE LAWS? No, because not all of the laws apply to you. Not all of the laws applied to Jesus either. But when the New Testaments says that he kept all the laws this was not a huge feat. The bible says that Zachariah kept all of the laws. If Zachariah was a man like you and I then we too can keep all of the laws. Did Zachariah and Jesus keep the laws regarding menstruation? Of course not they were men, but it still says they kept all of the laws.

All that’s left of the law for us to look at then is the feast and celebrations. God’s times and seasons.

We as Christians are grafted into Abraham, a Jew, if we believe in Jesus, a Jew, as our Lord and Savior. We are heirs to the (Jewish) promise of Abraham in Christ. If we are Christians then we believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, all Jewish men. In Christ, we are grafted into the Jewish family of believers. In Christ, we are adopted into the Jewish faith in Jehovah. So, then it seems that we should be following the Jewish feasts and celebrations. Why are we as believers in a Jewish Messiah, who came for the Jews, do we continue to celebrate pagan holidays instead of Jewish holidays?

“BUT WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER THE LAW.” cries the Christian.

The reason you cry that is because you were taught that from your Christian theology. Did Jesus eat a Passover meal? He sure did. If Paul was alive today would he eat a Passover meal? He sure would. Because he is Jewish and he follows Jewish customs. Why in the world are we celebrating Easter which is a pagan holiday instead of Passover? Because we grew up believing that from our parents. They learned it from their parents, and they learned it from their parents,……all the way back to the original time that worship to the goddess Ishtar was going on. But Constantine wanted to include the Christians in the holiday so he made it more appealing to them to join in. Same with Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Halloween. We only celebrate them because that is what was taught to our ancestors and the tradition continues. No other reason than out of ignorance.

So, then what does it mean today to be a follower of Torah if the law didn’t pass away?

It means that we have the Messiah as our ultimate sacrifice and we no longer give a blood sacrifice. We have been made clean in Him. This he FULFILLED on the cross for us.

It means that we no longer are obligated to the tithe because there are no Levite priests to feed.

It means we need to continue to follow God’s commands all 12 of them from both the Old Testament (10) and the New Testament (2).

It means instead of celebrating the times and seasons of the pagans that we start celebrating Passover instead of Easter. We celebrate Hanukah instead of Christmas.  We remember God and his other significant times and seasons and we stop celebrating Valentine’s Day and Halloween.

It means the Shabbat begins on Friday at sundown until Saturday at sundown, not on Sunday. We keep it holy on the day God ordained not what man created.

But why can’t you? Is it your pride? Your rebellion? Do you want to fit in with the pagan world, the pagan way of doing things? That’s like saying you’ll have sex with another person even though your spouse knows you love him. Would you do that?

Why is it that Christians find it so hard to believe that we are still under the law? It’s really not that hard. If you have truly crucified your flesh and it is no longer you that lives but Christ in you then it should be quite easy. If you walk according to the spirit and not according to the flesh then it should be quite easy. What do I mean by easy? I mean that if you are truly living your life for Christ then you won’t need this hyper-grace theology that the Christian church teaches.

I dare you. Pull out your bible and look at Paul as though he is fighting and arguing that he DOES follow Torah. I bet your eyes will be open and Paul will be more understandable.

Romans 12:1-2

Therefore, I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

When we live holy we are presenting our bodies as a holy sacrifice of spiritual worship to God. When we are conformed to this world we are presenting our bodies as an unholy sacrifice of spiritual worship to the devil. This unholy spiritual worship is called rebellion against God and rebellion is witchcraft.

1 Samuel 15:23

For rebellion is as the sin of divination,
And insubordination (rebellion) is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
He has also rejected you from being king.

We are all on either team Jesus or team Satan. There are no other teams. All throughout my walk with the Lord these last 20 years the Lord has spoken to me in parallel, and opposites. What do I mean by that? When I read the Old Testament and find a story with a message, then I ask myself: What is the New Testament equivalent? A quick and major example would be how Israel went from slavery into the wilderness, into the promised land. Jesus came to free us from slavery, we too walk in a wilderness as did Jesus, and then we too are given a promised land. Whenever God speaks he always confirms his words and says things two or three times, so why would his word, the Bible, on the whole, be any different. Storylines within the Bible do it. He says it once in the Old Testament, then he says it again with another story in the New Testament.

By opposites what I mean is, we are either on team Jesus or team Satan.

Faith / Doubt

Love / Hate

Heavenly Father / Father of Lies

Courage / Fear

and on and on this goes. …

So, keeping this in mind I want us to think for a minute about our actions and how we live our lives and make decisions. I want to jump into some word definitions from the original Greek and Hebrew and then we will put this all together.

My point here is that I want to show how this system of atonement has been corrupted by Satan and is used against Christians.

Webster’s Definition of Corruption: the process by which something, typically a word or expression, is changed from its original use or meaning to one that is regarded as erroneous or debased.

Atonement vs. Sacrifice

First, we will look at Atonement.

We know that Israel did sin offerings and offerings. Sin offerings are bloodless and voluntary offerings; gifts.

The word Atonement is the Hebrew word Kippor and comes from the word 3722. Kaphar

  1. Kippor = sin-offering of the atonement (Exodus 30:10)
  2. Kaphar= to appease

Exodus 30:10

Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once a year; he shall make atonement on it with the blood of the sin offering of atonement once a year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the Lord.

  • Kaphar

1) cover over, pacify, propitiate; אֲכַמָּרָה פָנָיו בַּמִּנְחָה Genesis 32:21 let me cover his face by the present (so that he does not see the offence, i.e. pacify, him; E; RSOTJC, 2d ed., 381 ‘wipe clean the face,’ blackened by displeasure, as the Arabs say ‘whiten the face’); לֹא תוּכְלִי כַּמְּרָהּוְתִמֹּל עָלַיִךְ הֹוָה Isaiah 47:11 and disaster will fall upon thee, thou wilt not be able to propitiate it (by payment of a כֹּפֶר, see Isaiah 43:3); pacify the wrath of a king Proverbs 16:14 (e.g. by a gift).

2) cover over, atone for sin, without sacrifice:

The Hebrew word Offering is minchah which is a gift, a tribute, an offering

(The reason we are looking up the meaning of offering is because atonement means offering.)

Offering = gift, oblation, meat offering, present, sacrifice

From an unused root meaning to apportion, i.e. Bestow; a donation; euphemistically, tribute; specifically, a sacrificial offering (usually bloodless and voluntary) — gift, oblation, (meat) offering, present, sacrifice.

The sacrifices of the people of Israel walking in obedience to God were specifically sacrificing for atonement, to cover their sins. This system was set up in place for the covering of sin until the Messiah would come and He would be the once and for all sacrifice and atone for the sins of the world. Why do we need our sins atoned for? Because sin separates us from a relationship with God. If we are not in a relationship with God then He cannot bless us and pour his favor upon us. Sin brings curse and we are cursed without a relationship with God.

But like it’s been said before, “the devil comes only to steal, kill and to destroy.” He came into this precious (ritual, tradition) and corrupted it and uses it for his witchcraft. What is witchcraft? Rebellion against God is witchcraft. How do we today participate in witchcraft knowingly and unknowingly?

Those against God; those in REBELLION to God. Rebellion is of WITCHCRAFT.

I know the church doesn’t want to talk much about the devil and witchcraft, which is very disheartening to me. As a deliverance minister, it saddens me that the church is in a battle with the devil but has no desire to study its enemy. Any good War Chief or Military General will study its enemy to take it down.

Ephesians 6 lets us know that we are in a battle. What do we do in battle, we fight. What does the Lord say about this fight? He says we fight FROM victory, so there is nothing to fear. We already know that we have won. But to win we still must know how our enemy works. Have we been winning? Not really. Why? Because we haven’t been studying our enemy. When I first came to the Lord he showed me that I need to know three things to be MORE THAN AN OVERCOMER.

#1 I need to know WHO my God is. His power and might, his love and mercy.

#2 I need to know WHO I am in Christ.

#3 I need to know WHO my enemy is and my authority through Christ over him.

Okay so let’s study our enemy for a moment.

Hosea 4:19 etc.; — the common and most ancient sacrifice, whose essential rite was eating the flesh of the victim at a feast in which the god of the clan shared by receiving the blood and fat pieces.

Hosea 4:19 AMP

The wind [of God’s relentless wrath] has wrapped up Israel in its wings, and [in captivity] they will be ashamed because of their sacrifices [to calves, to the sun, to the moon, to stars, and to pagan gods].

  1. kashaph = To practice sorcery, sorcerer, use witchcraft; A primitive root; properly, to whisper a spell, i.e. To inchant or practice magic — sorcerer, (use) witch(-craft).

I looked up sorcery in the Hebrew and it referred me to this:

5331 pharmakeía (from pharmakeuō, “administer drugs”) – properly, drug-related sorcery, like the practice of magical-arts, etc. (A. T. Robertson).

It all brings us back to witchcraft which is rebellion.

So, either you are for God or you are in rebellion to God. Either you are in a relationship with God or you are in witchcraft.

If there is the power of life and death in the tongue (Pr.18:21) then when you are speaking life you are speaking truth because God is life. If you are speaking death then you are speaking lies because Satan is death. We cannot be double-minded (Eph 4:14). We cannot be tossed to and fro (James 1:6). We must set our face like flint upon Jesus. The path is narrow.

Speak life which is the truth, not lies which is death.

  1. marrah = To be contentious (Contentious = to be argumentative) or rebellious

bitter, change, be disobedient, disobey, grievously, provocation, provoking; A primitive root; to be (causatively, make) bitter (or unpleasant); (figuratively) to rebel (or resist; causatively, to provoke) — bitter, change, be disobedient, disobey, grievously, provocation, provoke(-ing), (be) rebel (against, -lious).

1 Samuel 15:23

For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being king.

1 practice divination Genesis 44:5 (J; by means of cup, i.e. by hydromancy), with implied power to learn secret things Genesis 44:15; condemned by prophetic writer 2 Kings 21:6 2Chronicles 33:6 (+ עוֺנֵן וְעָשָׂח אוֺב וְיִדְּעֹנִים), 2 Kings 17:17 (“” וַיִּקְסְמוּ קְסָמִים); forbidden in D and H: Deuteronomy 18:10 ( + קֹסֵם קְסָמִים מְעוֺנֵן וּמְכַשֵּׁף), Leviticus 19:26 (H; “” תְּעוֺנֵנ֑וּ).

2 observe the signs or omens Genesis 30:27 (j); so probably יְנַחֲשׁוּ 1 Kings 20:33 now the men were observing the signs.

certainly, divine, enchanter, use enchantment, LEARN BY EXPERIENCE, diligently observe

A primitive root; properly, to hiss, i.e. Whisper a (magic) spell; generally, to prognosticate — X certainly, divine, enchanter, (use) X enchantment, LEARN BY EXPERIENCE, X indeed, diligently observe.

Example of divination

1 Kings 20:26-34

Another Aramean War

26 At the turn of the year, Ben-hadad mustered the Arameans and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel. 27 The sons of Israel were mustered and were provisioned and went to meet them, and the sons of Israel camped before them like two little flocks of goats, but the Arameans filled the country. 28 Then a man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel and said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because the Arameans have said, “The Lord is a god of the mountains, but He is not a god of the valleys,” therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.’” 29 So they camped one over against the other seven days. And on the seventh day, the battle was joined, and the sons of Israel killed of the Arameans 100,000-foot soldiers in one day. 30 But the rest fled to Aphek into the city, and the wall fell on 27,000 men who were left. And Ben-hadad fled and came into the city into an inner chamber.

31 His servants said to him, “Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings, please let us put sackcloth on our loins and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will save your life.” 32 So they girded sackcloth on their loins and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said, “Your servant Ben-hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’” And he said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.” 33 Now the men took this as an omen, and quickly catching his word said, “Your brother Ben-hadad.” Then he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben-hadad came out to him, and he took him up into the chariot. 34 Ben-hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore, and you shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.” Ahab said, “And I will let you go with this covenant.” So, he made a covenant with him and let him go.

How is this divination?

As you can see in the first paragraph Israel is working with God to win this war. In the second paragraph, you can see that the people are trying to win this war through their own wisdom knowledge and understanding. Much like the description of divination where it says “men were observing the signs, and men were LEARNING BY EXPERIENCE.”

The Bible tells us to seek God for his wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Basically, what it is saying here is that if we go by our OWN EXPERIENCE and understanding that we have learned throughout life that it is divination. Where does divination come from? It comes from witchcraft. It comes from the devil. It comes from pride and pride is not of God but a humble heart goes to God and asks him for his wisdom, knowledge, and understanding …….(Pr 3:5-6) so that we lean not on our own understanding. Then when God tells us something we must not argue with him. Because in the arguing that too is witchcraft, it is contentious and contentious is rebellion which is witchcraft. Rebellion against God is insubordination. There is a difference between testing the spirit to make sure it is of God and arguing with God. We must be sure to never argue with God.

Living a holy life should not seem optional to you. Walking in obedience should not be optional to you. Asking God for direction before you do anything should not be optional to you. If it is optional to you then you are walking in witchcraft. If walking in witchcraft then are you truly walking as a believer? Does your life look like the unbelievers? Then you are walking in witchcraft and according to the patterns of the world. If you truly want to be a follower of Jesus then you must surrender your pride. You must humble yourself before the Lord and forget all that you know leaving it all behind to follow him.

When we follow pagan holidays which we learned from our parents by experience we are performing the acts of divination.

That is why we must walk in the spirit so that we have the mind of Christ. We crucify our flesh so that we look like Christ. Then we will be led by the spirit and not by our own understanding which we learned from experience (divination).
